OUR MISSION, VISION AND VALUES
The mission of Evergreen Play Association is to enhance the social, mental, physical and economic well-being of both children and parents in the community. Situated in one of the most deprived areas of the country with high rates of obesity and gang activity, Evergreen Adventure Playground provides a safe, positive and stimulating environment for children. The playground is free for all children aged 5-15 years regardless of ethnicity, ability and social economic status. Many different activities are offered at the playground each day, and all activities are child-centred and freely chosen by the child.

INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT
Play is so important for a child’s development that the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights (UNHCR) has declared it as a right of every child. Through play, children gain physical exercise, form social relationships, activate their imagination and learn problem-solving skills. Child-driven play in particular, as is the case at Evergreen, helps children become more confident and resilient.
At Evergreen, children participate in activities freely chosen from the displayed activity programme. These activities are designed to develop all 5 senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing) and social skills in fun ways. Healthy lifestyles are promoted through cooking sessions using ingredients from the garden and physical activities within the play site. Diversity and inclusion are celebrated so that children gain awareness and break down stereotypes. The off-site trips provided throughout the year provide opportunities for the children to gain a greater view of the surrounding world and relate to each other through shared experiences despite different backgrounds and abilities.
